Please tell us your views on the Bill and explain why it will affect you.: I would be in favour of Civil Partnerships being extended to any couple that wants one. There is a romantic notion of marriage which I believe blinds a lot of people to the reality that it's essentially a social contract. Calling it a Civil Partnership more accurately reflects this and would help remove old, traditional and essentially damaging patriarchal connotations. Many people these days wish to find an alternative to traditional religious ceremonies. The Humanist Society are a great alternative for the actual ceremony and I think Civil Partnerships would be welcomed by those that don't wish religion to have a bearing on their life.
