Free access to swimming/sports facilities for all children

How does this impact on Community Wellbeing? Children should not be at the mercy of their parents ability/willingness to pay for swimming lessons and pool use. We have an issue with overweight and underactive children. You cant assess a family's finances on numbers alone. Plenty of families where both parents are in work would struggle to pay the price of admission for everyone to swim each weekend, children should be afforded the ability to develop healthy habits, this will reduce the burden on the NHS in the long run. This is especially true for a country where the weather makes outdoors play so unappealing for the majority of the time. Why should the Committee focus on this as part of their future work? Childhood is the habit forming time, diabetes and other lifestyle related illnesses are crippling the NHS. This will increase health and community connectedness by removing a key barrier to access.
