Improve local healthcare facilities in rural communities

Improve local healthcare facilities in rural communities

How does this impact on Community Wellbeing? In rural areas, access to healthcare can be problematic when located distant from home in areas with limited public transport - eg no x-ray facilities in minor injury units means people may struggle to access to A&E due to incurring expensive taxi fares. Make more outpatient clinics available in local health centres for similar reasons. Increase beds and broaden treatments available in local community hospitals to ease access for visitors. Further efforts to recruit and retain GPs & other healthcare staff in more remote rural areas. All these would ease access to healthcare and reduce the risk of people being unable or unwilling to seek treatment due to the difficulty/expense/delay in accessing point of delivery, therefore improve health & well-being. Why should the Committee focus on this as part of their future work? It would improve health & well being
