The Scottish Government should look into nationalising and making public transport free to use.
This is a tricky one. We know that the poorest in society are disproportionately affected by covid, and this would help them out a bit. I also think this is a really good idea generally, but I worry that it would conflict with the "stay at home" message. Is there a possibility it might also increase virus transmission rates?
Lothian Buses is perhaps a model for Scotland wide. It is owned by the Lothian Councils and has, unlike other bus companies, enjoyed increasing passenger numbers, investment in new buses, and flat fares. I presume that the free use would only happen once the stay at home message is no longer necessary.
