I wanted to ask for some clarification about the Covid’s Committee’s relationship with the Government. Monica had said a couple of times that she hoped the Government does this or that. I assume that the Committee makes recommendations to the Government. Does the Government follow these? As we learned in the first week, the role of the Committee is to scrutinise government policies and legislation and the government to account. Sometimes this could result in amendments being suggested to legislation which are then voted on by MSPs in the Chamber. Other times this could result in recommendations being made that the Government must respond to in writing, or at future committee meetings. Sometimes the Government won't always follow a Committee's recommendations but they should instead provide their reasoning for their decisions. All of this helps hold the government to account.
