Accountability within authorities

Accountability within authorities

My main reason for supporting an independent Scotland is to live in a society where the people are listened to, treated fairly and democratically, and governent exists to serve the will of the people. Within the UK, we are moving away from society towards a culture based on self interest. This is not a natural Scottish trait, but is becoming more prevalent. Cover ups prevent learning from mistakes and subsequent improvement . A fair and equitable justice system is essential to the public having condfidence in government at all levels. Governments owning up to mistakes humanises them, and increases trust in them. Scotland should not be governed by fear. Within communities there is a fear of persecution if authority is challenged. Unfortunately this has been my personal experience. My priority is therefore to have an open and honest process for the general public to hold authorities accountable for their actions without fear of persecution or corruption.
