Single sex toilets are a right that should be afforded all children. Children need dignity, privacy and safety. There are higher rates of VAWG [Admin: Violence Against Women and Girls] in countries with no provision for women and girls. The move in Edinburgh schools towards mixed sex toilets is ill thought out and causes distress, as well as urinary tract infections in those avoiding using the facilities. Girls lose days of school if the have heavy periods. Young people who for religious reasons cannot share facilities have to use out of the way toilets, or disabled facilities. These are people with protected characteristics, who should have easy access to suitable facilities. There are issues with mixed toilets in other areas too, but in my opinion fixing this issue in school should be a priority
