protection of women from domestic abuse

protection of women from domestic abuse

i believe far more has to be done to protect women (and children) from domestic abuse. more resources should be made available to women’s shelters/refuges to protect the women who need it. there is an epidemic of male violence against women in scotland, and the uk in general and the government should take steps to tackle this, whether by increasing minimum sentences for domestic abuse or by requiring police by law to inform new partners of domestic abuse charges. one in three women in the uk will experience domestic abuse at one point in her life. you almost certainly know a woman who has suffered domestic abuse. the government needs to do more to ensure we are safe in our own homes. Violence against women - often by partners and families - is increasing whereas prevention and prosecution is decreasing. This needs analysis, consultation and proposals for legislation.
