Stop public funding of lobby groups

Stop public funding of lobby groups

Currently we have the government funding interest groups to lobby itself and its politicians. This is not a good use of public money. Often the lobby groups favoured in this way do not even represent the views of the communities they claim to represent and are not in any way responsible to them. In effect, they represent a niche interest but with government funding and government access, achieve undue influence. This makes it harder for other community groups that are not funded in this way, to have their voices heard. Where there is public support for an organisation and its aims, the group will be able to obtain volunteers and fund its own campaigning.
