Lifeline Ferry priority for islanders

Lifeline Ferry priority for islanders

Scottish Government Ferries Plan notes 'lifeline' to be: A lifeline ferry service is required in order for a community to be viable. However cheaper fares 'for all' has resulted in tourists filling ferries, often booking far in advance, so that islanders can't book passage at shorter notice to meet their daily needs, including medical & dental appointments, moving livestock, unexpected shopping needs or just meeting friends at short notice. There is an urgent need to develop a system that allows a lifeline service to function as defined and meet the needs of islanders, while still allowing tourists to access the islands without swamping limited services.
