Ban the sale of personal data

In the course of day-to-day life individuals frequently have to provide some personal data to organisations or companies in order to access a service. Current attempts at data protection do not go far enough and citizens are still unable to control and prevent the sale of their data to other companies or organisations. Such data is further used to the detriment of the data subject - through things like the creation of advertising profiles for targeting or through the subject being spammed by unwanted communication from organisations with whom she has had no interaction. Personal data leaks, which are more likely with the existence of such transfers, can even have consequences of personal danger.
