Despite 25 years of DDA towns and cities are still an obstacle race for wheelchair users. No dropped kerbs, or potholes at the bottom of them that you get stuck in, uneven pavements, pavement furniture, cars parked on pavements, cobbles, potholes, inaccessible shops and venues. The list goes on and on. There doesn’t seem to be any upgrading of these problem areas and no checking that in fixing things, Wheelchair access is taken into account. I feel there is a need for legislation or an inspectorate and certainly an update on the standards that need to be met to improve the situation so that wheelchair users can get out and about.
