Make sight loss a public health priority

Make sight loss a public health priority

Every hour someone in Scotland starts to lose their sight. There will be over 200,000 visually impaired people in Scotland by 2030. With an increasing number of people in Scotland affected by visual impairment, we believe it’s time to focus on sight loss. We encourage the Health, Social Care and Sport Committee to invite those living with sight loss to give their views on the new national low vision service. The Health, Social Care and Sport Committee to assess public awareness levels for the risk factors for visual impairment, and what action can be taken to ensure the public is informed about individual action to help prevent poor eye health.
