The local authorities are too large and not local at all. They have very little autonomy and as a result do not answer to the local populations. They need to be split up into smaller entities. For example, I live in South Ayrshire which stretches from Barassie to Ballantrae and incorporates: former fishing villages, former mining villages, some large towns, an airport, and a large amount of rural communities. By trying to serve them all, SAC ends up failing many of them. The policies are blanket ones and the council officers are stretched thinly across a large geographical area.
