Now that we have left the EU and need to change how we subsidise farming, we should make sure that farmers are financially supported and incentivised to improve animal welfare. This should not mean minor changes within existing systems. Significant changes are required, such as more outdoor bred and reared animals and breeding animals that are healthy, rather than breeding for production, which causes immense suffering (for example, chickens who can’t walk because they are so heavy).
