Mandate use of Small Business for modest Public Contracts

Although Public Sector procurement is supposed to consider small business, frequently this is ignored in favour of large suppliers. However over 50% of the working population is employed by organisations of 25 people or fewer. So large companies should be banned from bidding for contracts worth less than £500k (except for provision of physical materials or equipment). That will force taxpayers’ money towards small enterprise and give a massive boost to the economy which will grow much faster as a result. It will also aid businesses outside the Central Belt.
