As large estates of new build homes are being built all around Scotland, more should be done to ensure these developers have to incorporate public units and space for local business such as butchers, small shops or small community office spaces into their plans. It is not logical to build 100s of homes and force people to travel a few miles to a supermarket when local business and produce could be utilised in these new communities. In the long term, encouragement to shop local and access local working spaces will be central to our steps towards fighting climate change. People and communities need to be put before the profit of private housing development companies.
