The attainment gap in Scotland is meaning that many children are facing barriers that mean that they are unable to reach their full potential like their more advantaged peers. Since the introduction of the pupil equity fund and Scottish attainment challenge this gap has decreased but not closed and the impacts of COVID-19 is sure to set the progress back. More must be done to help disadvantaged children from the moment they start education whether that be in a primary or nursery setting.
