Psychology should be offered as a standard subject for pupils to take at all schools across Scotland. The current limited provision of psychology as a subject, despite its popularity where offered, is creating inequality in opportunity for young people across Scotland. Any pupil that wishes to study psychology should be afforded equal opportunities as their peers in other parts of the country. The subject should be offered on the same basis as all major subjects, with a full suite of courses available for senior phase pupils, as well as high-quality provision throughout the Broad General Education phase. Parliamentary committees should ensure that school pupils across Scotland are being offered equal opportunities to study psychology, and that it is being afforded the same status as other major subjects in every school.
