Corporate and Social Responsibility

Previously luxury goods, fashion, sportswear, watches and other apparel have always been prime targets for counterfeiters. But nowadays criminals are increasingly turning their attention to even more deadly fakes such as household electrical appliances, medicines and toys; the result is that, every day, consumers are putting themselves at risk. The Committee should investigate the feasibility of legislation that would make it illegal for businesses to know their product is being counterfeited and do nothing about it, which endangers consumers. They should ensure that the Government make sure any questions about CSR could, and arguable should, be carried over into discussions about procurement and the supply chain in the private sector.
