Powers related to broadcasting, telecommunications and broadband are currently matters reserved for the UK Parliament. The unique challenges faced by Scotland in terms of upgrading telecommunication and broadband infrastructure are better understood by Scottish people and should be within the powers of the Scottish Parliament. The Scottish Government should do more to push for the devolution of these powers to take steps towards better service for highland and island communities. A Scottish Broadcasting Service would better serve Scottish licence fee payers by focusing on and funding Scottish interests, news and extended content that would benefit the wider artistic community. BBC and other British programmes could be available as TV packages or through BritBox giving Scottish people the best of both worlds. This is already the case in other countries.
