Will Jennings' response to survey results

Will was not surprised by the results of the survey - although the citizens' panel members are more likely to vote than average citizen . People who do get involved have higher trust and feeling of effectiveness, however, people can also have great enthusiasm to participate but feel powerless. The solution to this problem is Parliament's showing people their participation is worthwhile and making people feel that their voice is being heard. How to increase trust? Innovations like citizens' panels are good but be careful for how costly they are and how they may not engage people with other responsibilities or concerns such as child caring responsibilities, those on low incomes, those who don’t have flexibility around work. We need to be mindful of solutions to reach all parts of society. Build trust: it is important to build reputations parliaments that they are competent and behave Design of engagement key – and think about incentives – opportunities for influence and giving people sense of voice being heard In all there is a demand for participation but need better design to ensure more people can participate.
