In Orkney some of the islands have paid first responders and some of them rely on volunteers. This provides a disparity in service provision across the islands. There is a problem with recruitment on the islands which results in this reliance on volunteers. There are currently only 2 nurse practitioners on the islands and they are both due to retire.
