Access to training

Access to training

Access to CPD training in remote and rural locations is another barrier faced by healthcare staff in these areas. Funding is one part of the problem, the other is the delivery of training. The pandemic saw the expansion of remote access to training which offered benefits to rural and island healthcare staff, reducing the time required to attend and saving the cost of travel and accommodation, enabling training budgets to go further. As the NHS returns to normal, training increasingly returns to face to face options only. To retain and develop healthcare staff in these areas, staff must be provided with equal access to training and development without there being an increased burden on either the employer or the member of staff. This should be reflected in training budgets and methods of delivery.
