The Independent Living Fund in Scotland

The Independent Living Fund in Scotland

The Government has been saying since 2015 that it is committed to reopen the ILFS. Yet, continually we're being told to wait until the Government decides it can fund the Fund sustainingly. We despute this, as the Fund could grow progressively, within an annual incremental budget. As it is, at the moment, with the annual decrease of the number of people being helped, the Fund is in danger of withering on the vine. in a research project in NI it was found for every £1 spent by the Fund, the community benefitted by £11. Social care expenditure should be seen as an investment in individual and community development. NOTE: Aspects of this question were discussed in Committee on the 12th September 2023.
