Credentialing

Credentialing

The GMC has been piloting a new process to formally recognise a doctor’s expertise in a specific area of practice: a GMC credential. GMC credentials focus on discrete areas of practice where consistent UK-wide clinical standards are considered necessary to support better, safer patient care. Credentials are developed and delivered by other bodies but approved and quality assured by the GMC. A small number of pilot credentials have now achieved full approval. Among them is a Rural and remote medicine credential which has been developed by NHS Education Scotland. This credential will help upskill doctors to provide generalist care within remote and rural settings. The documentation will be published online shortly.
