Prevent deaths in custody and involve families

In light of the Deaths in Custody Review recommendations and more generally the health and wellbeing of people in prison how will the Scottish Government ensure that families are kept informed and involved more effectively? Suggestions include the use of waiver forms; ensuring next of kin details are kept up to date (not just leaving this to the person in custody); using video links to support families to attend case conferences; and recognising positive initiatives such as the imminent introduction of dedicated phone lines in every prison to express concern about the health and wellbeing of someone held in prison (with a 'headline' option on the prison's automated phone menu to direct callers to it).
